Live Shot Manager Template Fields

Template Fields

There are multiple types of live shots that will need to be accounted for in the Live Shot Manager when users instantiate an object. NBC’s live shots are very diverse- for example it can be a news anchor, weather shot, breaking news scene, city skyline time-lapse, or a news guest in a remote location. Below are five templates for different types of live shots that have unique entry fields.

Contents

Host

Hosts are similar to guests, but they have more needs and requirements. They may need a prompter, makeup, trash can, printer, and they may need to arrive an hour early. The way to differentiate between guest and host is by the paths and signals that tend to come with them, but the metadata is virtually the same.

  • Name of host

  • Location of host (city, state, country)

  • Object type: needs Media Traffic review or not

    • Most objects require Media traffic review, but some objects may not.

  • Studio/truck

    • There is an opportunity to separate studio/truck as its own field under technical information and have it as a dropdown. This will depend on integration possibilities with a system like iNews that tracks studio/truck information.

  • Studio/truck contact

  • Technical information

    • This is information mostly regarding the studio and the lines accompanying it. There can be other information regarding technical aspects of the feed, such as booking a truck.

This information exists today as a blurb, and since this information is so specific to a shot and fluid, it makes sense that it exists as a blurb.

  • Production information

    • This is information that matteres to the producers, such as makeup, makeup budget, necessary equipment, timeliness, and camera crew information.

    • Hair and makeup can be something that exists separately as either a checkbox or a text field.

    • Other information can live as a blurb because they vary highly by shot.

    • Subfield: hair and makeup

  • Hit time

    • The time entry when the guest goes on air

  • Start time

    • This is the in time Media Traffic will need to book the fiber lines, transmission windows, and satellite windows.

  • End time

    • This is the out time Media Traffic will need to book the fiber lines, transmission windows, and satellite windows.

  • Show

  • Budget code

    • This is a 10 character text string that tells scheduling which budget to send the shot bill to.

Guest

Guests are very similar to hosts, but they typically have less needs than hosts. 40% of the time, they only need a camera shooting them and a background they need to feed.

  • Name of Guest

  • Location of Guest (city, state, country)

  • Object type: needs Media Traffic review or not

    • Most objects require Media traffic review, but some objects may not.

Events occur at a specific location for a unique cause, like a political rally or ceremony. Events differ from hosts and guests because they don’t with deal people, so their objects don’t need metadata fields like prompter and makeup. They also don’t typically occur in a studio.
